  1. Committeewoman Burry called the meeting to order at 5:30 PM.
  2. The minutes of April 4, 2000 were accepted on a motion by Mrs. McGarry and seconded by Mrs. Trost.
  3. No correspondence was received.
  4. Mrs. Burry noted that the Committee has been getting a lot of attention, especially due to the upcoming Celebration. The Colts Neck Journal has a page one article.
  5. Mrs. Burry reminded the Committee that historic properties plaques will be presented at the Township Committee meeting of May 10, and all Committee members should make an effort to attend. This will be the first item on the agenda. Invitations have been mailed, and Mrs. Boylan sent invitations for the reception to be held on May 21, requesting R.S.V.P. by May 14. The reception will be held in the historic home of Pam Carroll on Laird Road from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
  6. Mrs. Piotrowski announced that the Committee is virtually ready for the Celebration on May 19 and 20. She has verbal approval of the town route from the Chief of Police. Laura Kolnoski is trying to get TV coverage for both days of the event. Performers have been arranged, and will be confirmed two weeks prior to the date. Charlie Buck is putting up signs and bunting. His staff will set up tables and chairs on Saturday morning, and take them down in the evening. A second sound system is being rented. Handicap parking will be available. Arrangements need to be made for portajohns. Mrs.Rippa reported that Ray Longobardi will be putting up seven very attractive signs gratis.

Mrs. McGarry reported that tickets are selling well for the house tour, including many people from out of town. Two trolleys are already full. Every florist/garden center in the Township will donate arrangements to decorate the homes. Mrs. Boylan and Mrs. Trost are among the hostesses, who will dress in period costumes. Mrs. Piotrowski will try to arrange group rates for costumes at Mr. BŐs Entertainment costume shop. Mrs. Davis will send letters to volunteers giving instructions.

Mrs. Plumfield reported that all third graders (about 175 pupils) at Conover Road School are studying the history of Colts Neck. They went on a bus tour of the Township in April, and Mrs. Whitney took them on a tour of the Montrose School. All classes are involved, and they will all have something on display at the Celebration. There will be games, crafts tables, and a contest for designing a flag for the new library. Drawing paper with a flag outline, and boxes of crayons will be supplied for the children. The contest entries will be hung on display during the Celebration, and a committee consisting of Lillian Burry, Arnold Conover, Jeff Faistl, Mil Kobrinski and Tom Orgo will judge them in mid-to late afternoon. Mrs. Plumfield will seek permission to distribute flyers for the Celebration at the school. Mrs. Burry will seek permission to distribute them at Cedar Drive School.

Mrs. Joline announced that tickets for the dinner and hayride package have been sold out. No further tickets will be available, as space is limited on the hay wagon. Betty Riley has an exciting menu prepared. Mrs. Burry, Mrs. Joline, Mr. Kilbride and Bud Wheeler will narrate the evening tour.

Mrs. Burry and Mrs. Piotrowski will work on the opening ceremony and how announcements will be made during the day. Mrs. Burry will send letters to those "who have cared enough to donate land," inviting them to be honored at the Celebration.

  7. It was decided that the Committee will share a booth with the Historic Society, Open Space, and Farmland Preservation at the Township Fair on August 17 through 20. Mrs. McGowan, Mrs. Whitney, and Mrs. McGarry will work on the booth. T-shirts and stationery will be sold. Displays of our programs and accomplishments will be incorporated.
  8. Meeting adjourned at 6:19 PM on a motion offered by Mrs. Joline and seconded by Mrs. Trost. The next two meetings will be on TUESDAY, JUNE 6, and on TUESDAY, JULY 11.

Respectfully submitted,

Ellen Terry
