Visitors:

1. Chairperson Burry called the meeting to order at 5:30 PM.

2. On a motion by Mrs. Joline and seconded by Ms. Furey, the minutes of May 1, 2001 were accepted with the corrections that Ms. Furey is not looking at printing of the post cards.

3. The Monmouth County Library has requested a head count for Archives Day. Eleven people signed up during the meeting. Reservations will be made and menu choices distributed with minutes.

4. The 1865 map still needs about four more hours of work. Mrs. Burry stated that Mr. Cooke has made computer labels. She, Mr. Kilbride, Mrs. McGowan and Ms. Terry will meet at Mrs. Burry’s office on June 14 to attempt to finish work on the map.

5. Mrs. McGowan reported that she will be away during the week of the Fair (August 16, 17, 18 & 19), but will have everything ready for the other members of the subcommittee to set up and run the booth. The booth will have four tables and five chairs and be shared with the Historical Society.
6. Mrs. Burry reported that the historic brochure subcommittee was not able to meet, but will do so before the next Committee meeting.COLTS NECK HISTORICAL PRESERVATION COMMITTEE

7. Mr. Kilbride stated that he needs information about size before he can obtain a display case. Mrs. Burry stated that the historic collection continues to grow. Carol McCoy donated an 1892 Atlantic Township tax bill for her house. The bill was for $2.90, and the 1892 tax rate was $11.00 per thousand.

8. The members of the House Tour Subcommittee are Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Boylan, Ms. Furey, Mrs. Joline, Mr. Kilbride, Mrs. Mitchell, Mrs. Whitney and Betty Reilly. Mrs. Burry stated that she will be able to discuss traffic safety with the Police Department once she knows the houses and their locations. She will also arrange for insurance. Mrs. Davis reported that the houses for the tour are “Cottage House” on Richdale Road; the Sheehy home on Conover Road; the Reformed Church and its Parsonage on Route 537; Old St. Mary’s on Heyers Mill Road; the Janssen home on Creamery Road; the Montrose School at Montrose and Cedar Drive; and the Paradese home on Willowbrook Road. Mrs. Burry suggested that Mrs. Davis ask for Mrs. Trost’s assistance with publicity. Mrs. Burry has photos of two of the homes that she will give to Mrs. McGowan, and Mrs. McGowan will get pictures of the others. She suggested publicity be done in early September. Mrs. Davis stated that the paper incorrectly stated that the tour price of $20.00 includes lunch. The lunch will be a separate price. Mrs. Joline and Mrs. Reilly are working on the menu and pricing. Mrs. Davis has asked Mrs. Boylan and Mrs. Mitchell to help her get volunteers to staff the homes on the tour. She has asked Mr. Kilbride to write a description of each home, and a map, for the program that she, Mrs. Boylan and Ms. Furey will design.

9. Mrs. Plumfield reported that this summer she will compile the results of a survey of recipients of historic home plaques, which was done by the third graders. The resulting book will be given to the Colts Neck Library, and be used at Archives Day. On June 6, the third grade classes will take a bus tour of the Township. Each of the four buses will visit two homes, the municipal complex and jail, and the Reformed Church. Each child will have a sketch board and materials to record what they see on the trip. Mrs. Plumfield will assemble posters and other materials from the third-grade history classes to use as a backdrop for the Fair.

10. Mrs. McGowan stated that she will have the post cards of the Colts Neck Inn ready in time for the Fair. They will be captioned “Julie McGowan, artist,” and “Colts Neck Historic Preservation Committee.”

11. On a motion by Mrs. Joline and seconded by Mr. Piotrowski, the meeting was adjourned at 6:30 PM. THERE WILL BE NO JULY MEETING. Subcommittees should plan to meet during June and July and bring reports of their activities to the August meeting. The next meeting will be TUESDAY, AUGUST 6, 2001.

Respectfully submitted,

Ellen Terry

Secretary
