Visitors:
1. Chairperson Burry called the meeting to order at 5:30 PM.
2. On a motion by Mrs. Joline and seconded by Mrs. Boylan, the minutes of June,
2001 were accepted with the correction that the next meeting should have been
written as Tuesday, August 7, not Monday, August 6 (the reason for Mrs. McGowans
absence, as she was present on Monday, August 6).
3. Monmouth County Archives Day will be on Saturday, October 13. The Committee
will have a table. Eleven people will attend the luncheon.
4. Mrs. Burry displayed the 1865 map, which is complete and has been sent to
the printers. Bob Cooke, Harold Kilbride and Julie McGowan prepared the layout,
using sketches by Mrs. McGowan and by the late Jean Fazewski. Two hundred will
be printed in brown ink on off-white heavy stock. Two will be framed, one for
the Township Hall and one for the Library. The remainder will be sold for $15.00
each. Mrs. Boylan will ask Nordstrom for umbrella bags to package them.
5. Mrs. Davis reported on progress for the House Tour. The Paredes have
dropped out, but Mrs. McGowan has graciously agreed to show her house. This
will be an excellent substitution as not only is the house historic and lovely,
but Mrs. McGowan, a landscape architect, maintains beautiful display gardens,
including a Victorian knot garden. Tickets will be sold at the Fair, and checks
should be made payable to the Colts Neck Historical Preservation Committee.
A record of purchasers should be kept. Mrs. McGowan has taken photographs of
the tour houses, and Mrs. Boylan has them for the Fair display. Two hundred
and fifty programs will be printed in two shades of brown on off-whitepaper.
One hundred lunch tickets will be printed. The price of lunch will be $11.00,
which includes gratuity (there is no tax, as the Township is the purchaser of
the lunches).
6. Mrs. Burry displayed the postcard featuring the charming drawing Mrs. McGowan
made of the original Colts Neck Inn. They will be for sale at the Fair for $1.00
each. Ms. Rippa displayed the pillows that were made from the silk-screened
fabric of the winning posters from the May 2000 Celebration. The covers are
trimmed in rickrack, and the pillows are removable. Only twelve were made of
each design, and one flag of each design to give to the children who drew the
designs. They cost $21.00 each to produce. As they are a limited edition,
they will be on sale for $40.00 each. Four were purchased at the meeting. The
1865 maps will also be on sale. Records should be kept of sales of all these
items. Mrs. Plumfield announced that she has lots of posters from the third
grade classes that can be displayed at the Fair. She stated that the children
produced a lot of material from their tour of the Township, but this is not
yet assembled. She will have the assembled materials ready for Archives Day.
Other display materials for the Fair will be the Antique Carriage Parade album,
and the album of the May 2000 Celebration.
7. Mrs. Burry announced that the State Route 34/County Route 537 Management
Plan has been altered. The old one didnt impact on any buildings. The
widening now goes much farther west on Route 537, finally tapering at the Reformed
Church, and impacts historic buildings, including Colts Neck Realty. She distributed
copies of a draft letter to the New Jersey Department of Transportation. She
will confer with the Township Committee before sending the final version.
8. On a motion by Mrs. Joline and seconded by Mrs. Trost, the meeting was adjourned
at 6:40 PM. The next meeting will be TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2001.
Respectfully submitted,
Ellen Terry
Secretary
