3. Mrs. Burry reported that the Township Committee endorsed the letter that she read at the last meeting regarding widening of County Route 537. The Township Engineer and John Bennett also endorse seeking official Historic District designation. The Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Transportation will visit the Township on Tuesday, September 18, in recognition of the newly installed designated left turn signal at State Route 34 and County Route 537.

4. Mrs. Burry reported that Bob Cooke has resigned from the Committee due to schedule conflicts. He has successfully completed the map project that he had promised to do. She will recommend that the Township Committee appoint Dianna Hnat to replace him.

5. Mrs. Burry reported that the James Mitchell Memorial Program will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday. September 15. Rev. Scott Brown will preside, and include special prayers for this week’s tragedy. Liz Botti will sing the Star Spangled Banner, the theme from “Pearl Harbor,” and “You Are the Wind Beneath My Wings.” Kevin Walsh will play bagpipes. Freeholder Narozanick will also attend.COLTS NECK

6. Mrs. Burry announced that the 1865 maps are being sold individually from her office. Two will be framed, one for the Township Hall and one for the Library.

7. Mrs. Burry showed an article from the August 30 Asbury Park Press about the upcoming Historic House Tour. Several people who read the article have called her office for tickets. Cathi Trost wrote an article for the Journal. An ad was placed in the Press “Date Book,” at a cost of about $45.00. To date, 51 tickets have been sold for the tour, and 39 tickets for the luncheon. Volunteers must pay for lunch. Mrs. Davis reported that the list of volunteers for the tour is rather small. Mums will be purchased from Tom Orgo for house decorations. Mrs. Davis, Ms. Furey, Mrs. Joline and Mrs. Mitchell will pick up and distribute the flowers to the houses. Mrs. Davis will have about 100 handouts printed.

8. A professional historic preservation professional will be sought, to work for official Historic District designation for the Village area. This professional could also assist in seeking Certified Local Government designation, which can be useful in obtaining grant money.

9. On a motion by Mrs. Joline and seconded by Mrs. McGowan, the meeting was adjourned at 6:30 PM. The next meeting will be TUESDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2001. THIS IS A CHANGE FROM THE PUBLISHED SCHEDULE.

Respectfully submitted,

Ellen Terry

Secretary
