Visitors:

1. Chairperson Burry called the meeting to order at 5:30 PM.

2. On a motion by Mrs. Boylan and seconded by Mrs. Trost, the minutes of September 13, 2001 were accepted with the correction that Mrs. Trost’s absence was excused.

3. Mrs. Burry reminded the Committee that Monmouth County Archives Day will be October 13. Set-up begins at 9:00 AM, exhibits are open from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, and the program begins at 11:00 AM. Mrs. Boylan, Mrs. Joline, Mr. Kilbride and Mrs. Whitney will set up the Committee’s display.

4. Mrs. Burry remarked that the Jim Mitchell Memorial Service on September 15 was beautifully executed. The service segued into a remembrance of those who perished in the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center.

5. Mrs. Burry reported that she took two of the historic maps to Little Silver to be framed for Township Hall and the Library.

6. Mrs. Burry announced that the Monmouth County Planning Board has issued a carefully researched and documented Scenic Road Plan as part of the Monmouth County Growth Management Guide (the county master plan). Four Colts Neck Roads are included: Colts Neck Road (County Route 537), Crine Road (County Route 4), Dutch Lane Road (County Route 46), and Newman Springs Road (County Route 520). The intent of the plan is to preserve aesthetic and historic resources. Mrs. McGowan suggested a resolution endorsing the plan. Mrs. Burry noted that an appropriate ordinance would be a natural progression from the resolution.

7. Mrs. Burry reported that the house tour on September 28 was a lovely program accompanied by perfect weather, and thanked Mrs. Boylan, Mrs. Davis and Ms. Furey for guiding this project to success. There was a steady stream of visitors, 102 tickets having been sold at Colts Neck Realty, and more tickets sold at the individual homes. There were close to 50 people present at the lunch, and Betty Reilly offered a superb menu. Mrs. Joline coordinated the luncheon; a job well done. Ms. Furey read Mrs. Davis’ report, which stated that she had send thank-you letters to all volunteers, except members of the Committee, and suggested that next year the Committee consider having the tour on both Friday and Saturday, for shorter hours, as the afternoon went slowly. Mrs. Burry sent flowers to the home owners. She believes there are still homes to be shown that have not yet been included on tours, and homes previously on the tour could be shown again.

8. A professional historian is being sought for the purpose of applying for Historic District status. It could be financially beneficial to apply for Certified Local Government status in the same time frame, using the assistance of this professional. Mrs. Burry suggested that the Committee might also want to consider seeking commission status.

9. Mrs. Burry stated that work on the brochure will be resumed shortly.

10. On a motion by Mrs. Joline and seconded by Mrs. McGowan, the meeting was adjourned at 6:30 PM. The next meeting will be TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 2001.

Respectfully submitted,

Ellen Terry

Secretary
