Visitors:

1. Vice-Chairperson Kilbride called the meeting to order at 5:30 PM.

2. Mrs. Joline noted that she was present at the October meeting, but reported as absent. Mrs. Hnat was also present. Ms. Furey noted that she had read Mrs. Davis’ report from the House Tour, as Mrs. Davis was absent. On a motion by Mrs. Trost and seconded by Mrs. Joline, the minutes of October 9, 2001 were accepted with these corrections.

3. The Colts Neck Journal published an article in the November issue about the Historic House Tour. It included photographs of exteriors and interiors of the homes on the tour, and lavish descriptions of the homes and their history.

4. The proposed schedule for 2002 was approved. The schedule is made a part of these minutes.

5. The framed, completed 1865 map of the Township will be presented to the Township Committee on Wednesday, November 28. Mrs. Burry left word that she would like Mr. Kilbride, Mrs. McGowan and Bob Cooke to be present. Mr. Kilbride will call Mr. Cooke.

6. Mrs. Burry is looking into the services of a professional historian to guide the Committee in seeking Historic District status.

7. Nancy Boylan offered her home for a Holiday Gathering for Committee members and spouses or escorts at 8:00 PM on Saturday, December 1. Everyone is requested to bring refreshments.

8. Mr. Kilbride opened the floor to discussion about projects for next year. An historic Colts Neck brochure is still at the concept stage. There was discussion regarding consideration of obtaining Holly Bush Farm. The asking price is $800,000, and Mr. Kilbride stated that repairs and restoration costs could be enormous. Most members expressed the opinion that 2002 was too soon for another carriage drive. It was noted that Holmdel held a successful drive this year. The house tours have been a lot of work, and there is competition from other local house tours. However, they have the very positive effect of encouraging peoples’ interest in lovely historic homes, versus the current penchant for monster houses. A candlelight tour, possibly followed by hot cocoa and cookies at the firehouse, could distinguish the Colts Neck house tour as unique in this area. An opinion was expressed that the tours were better received when trolley service was provided. Consideration should be given to holding the tour on a non-work day.

9. Mr. Kilbride announced that George Dittmar has revived talks with Mrs. Burry regarding reconstruction of Bucks Mill, at his expense.

10. The Township Christmas Party will be at 7:00 PM on December 8.

11. Mrs. Trost announced that Mrs. McGowan has been appointed to the Monmouth County Shade Tree Commission. She commended Mr. Piotrowski for his excellent article in the Colts Neck Journal about historic cemeteries and his preservation work there.

12. On a motion by Mrs. McGowan and seconded by Mrs. Trost, the meeting was adjourned at 6:29 PM. The next meeting will be TUESDAY, DECEMBER 4, 2001.

Respectfully submitted,

Ellen Terry

Secretary
