Dwight Wolf, Frank DelleDonne
Absent: Bruce Bennett, Edward Piotrowski, Leonor Lesta, Philip Maida
The meeting was called to order by the Chairman, Frank Baker at 8:05 PM.
The Sunshine Statement was read by the secretary. The minutes of the February
meeting were approved.
Treasurer's Report: In the temporary Recreation Operating Budget,
$8,769.22 has been spent, $1,129.35 is encumbered, leaving available $22,101.43.
In the Park & Playground Budget, $379.44 has been spent, leaving available
$5,620.56.
Old Business: All the Winter programs will be coming to an end this
month except the Womens Exercise program and the Mens Open Basketball,
which will continue until April 5th.
The Teen Ski Trip which had about twenty registrants took place on Saturday,
February 10th. At the last minute had about five dropouts because of illness.
Those that went reported that it was a good time was had by all.
The Spring Recreation programs will commence on April 16th. They will include
Womens Exercise, Golf, Yoga, Volleyball, Gymnastics, Cooking and the
Mens Softball League. The cooking will be 2 two night sessions; one
on basic knife skills and the other on seafood.
It was suggested that the golf be held in the future at one of the other
golf courses that has a driving range.
The Special Events for the Spring this year are the Childrens Easter
Egg Hunt with the Brunch with the Easter Bunny on April 7th, Childrens
Easter Arts & Crafts on April 14th, The Colts Neck Classic Bicycle Race
on May 6th, the Junior Olympic Track & Field Meet on May 12, the Twilight
Track Meet on May 19 and the Memorial Day Parade on May 28th.
Dr. Nolan reported that he has been advised that we will receive a slight
increase in our budgets this year. He was also informed that the Township
Committee would like us to begin to break even on not only recreation programs,
but also the total Department budget. To do this, we will have to raise
fees of programs and begin to charge all groups for permit fees.
Park maintenance has continued to be put off so far because of the snow
and bad weather that we have had.
New Business: The Summer Day Camp is scheduled to start on June 25th
and continue until August 3. The fees may have to be raised to at least
$250.00an increase of $50 in order to begin to meet a break even department
budget. It was suggested that we give registrants an extra week for the
extra money. Dr. Nolan said that this is not feasible, due to the fact that
the school want to do maintenance before the opening of school. Also, the
attendance in August generally drops off as people generally go vacations
at that time.
It was also suggested that it might be a good idea to have a nurse as part
of the staff of the Day Camp.
Mr. Baker went over the list of potential participants of the Memorial Day
Parade and reports were given on Committee contacts.
Comments: Dr. Nolan reported that Pop Warner has been given permission to
put a storage trailer behind the block building at Bucks Mill Park.
It was suggested that maybe a practice field could be made on the western
side of Bucks Mill Park.
The next meeting will be on April 4th.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:55 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Peggy Houlihan
Secretary
