PROCEDURE FOR PLANTINGS IN NEW SUBDIVISIONS

1. Notify the Shade Tree Commission at 462-5470 at least 48 hours prior to the commencement of the plantings.

2. A written statement from a certified nursery listing the plants should be submitted prior to planting (purchase invoice prices may be blacked out).

3. An inspection of the plants by the Township Landscape Architect, Mrs. McGowan, will be required prior to planting. Please call Maureen Laffey at 462-5470 for an appointment.

The Colts Neck Shade Tree Commission Planting Specifications should be adhered to.


Planting Notes

1. All plant materials are to be planted in accordance with the Colts Neck Shade Tree Commission (CNSTC) Planting Specifications.

2. All plant material and sizes shall be as specified on the approved landscape plan(s). No substitutes shall be made without prior written permission of the CNSTC.

3. All material shall conform to the latest edition of the "American Standard for Nursery Stock" published by the American Association of Nurserymen or equivalent.

4. Planting shall be undertaken September 1 to December 20 and March 20 to May 20 unless special written permission is given. No planting shall be done during abnormally hot weather nor when the ground is frozen.

5. All deciduous street trees shall be clear of branches to 6 ft. above the ground unless specific prior written permission is given.

6. All plants shall be planted at exactly the same depth as previously grown. All soil in the planting pits shall be augmented with approved top soil and firmed to prevent air pockets and settling. All plants shall be thoroughly watered at the time of planting.

7. Damaged. branches shall be removed by pruning. Nursery tags shall be removed.

8. All plastic material, synthetic burlap and string or containers shall be removed at time of planting. The wire baskets and plastic liners of container grown trees and shrubs must be completely removed. No container grown material will be accepted if it is rootbound.

9. Top soil shall be sandy loam, free from subsoil, no stones or wood greater than 1" diameter, no undesirable material, 4 percent minimum organic matter, pH 5.5 - 6.5.

10. All deciduous trees >1" cal. and all evergreens> 4 ft. shall be staked with three hardwood or cedar 2-2-1/2" square or round stakes 8-10 ft. in length (See CNSTC Planting Specifications).

11. All stakes, wire, or plastic shall be removed by the developer 12 months after planting.

12. Turf fertilizer shall be 10-6-4 (50% organic), applied at 3 lbs./100 sq. ft. A slow release tablet or packet of 20-10-5 shall be added 1 per shrub, 2 for trees up to 2" and 3 for 2-4" cal. Turf area shall be limed 50 lb. per 100 sq. ft.

13. Aged 4" shredded hardwood mulch shall be applied over the entire plant pit.
